Weekend getaway with girls at The Astbury Golf & Lodge Resort

This year has started a bit chaotic, with many plans and trips on my list. Besides my work as a photographer and content creator, traveling has kind of interfered with my work and left me exhausted for a while.

Thankfully, I had the opportunity to take some much-needed time to enjoy a lovely weekend at The Astbury Golf & Lodge Resort with my sister and our lovely friend Claudia.

I wanted to book a lodge by myself somewhere quiet to find time to reconnect with myself, balance my energy, and take a break from the daily chores and work, so this invitation was like a gift from the Universe.

This trip wasn’t even planned as my sister just announced that her friend had just invited her to the golf resort for a few days, so she needed company. Since we are best friends, we prepared everything instantly. The best adventures sometimes happen when you don’t plan, and this weekend proved that quote just right.

So, we had the invitation on Tuesday, and on Saturday, we headed to Astbury Golf & Lodge Resort. We left Northampton at around 11 am, picked up a few Starbucks coffees on the way, and reached Bridgnorth at around 1 pm. Please note that passing M6 near Birmingham is always busy, and you will likely end up queuing up, so allow plenty of time for your journey.

As we chat with Jamie, he revealed a few details regarding the process of buying a luxury lodge at Astbury Golf & Lodge Resort. The prices range from £99,000 to £365,000 (more details you can find on their website). It might sound like a lot, and it is, but there are very few places where you can actually buy a property with amazing views and amenities. It all depends on the lifestyle that suits you.

As we reached the Astbury Golf & Lodge Resort, we were greeted with a delicious cocktail until Jamie explained the rules around the Golf resort and showed us the lodge where we were about to spend the weekend.

Luckily, we had a warm sunny day, rare here in England, with temperatures averaging 20Celcious/ 68°F. It might not sound like a lot to many, but it is a blessing for the British weather. This was my first time going to a Golf club and lodge resort; my first impression was amazing. Clean, fresh air, the greens around, and the birds singing felt blissful.

Although we didn’t come to play golf (as I don’t know how to, and didn’t come prepared for that anyway), we did explore the surroundings and even made it to the wild side, where they planned to add more lodges. You can see this part in my Shorts YouTube channel, and a few more bits captured occasionally.

Once we made ourselves comfortable and placed the food in the fridge ( yes, we did come prepared for barbeque), we had a cup of coffee and had a lovely conversation, after which we decided to start the barbeque.

A cup of coffee and the view towards the deck of our lodge

I’m not a barbeque expert, but I took this task into my own hands as I’m comfortable around the fire and find comfort when next to it. So, while waiting for the fire to burn the charcoal briquettes properly, I set relaxing music in the background to create a calm ambiance while my sister was preparing the BBQ stuff.

Although I tried to stay away from my phone as much as possible, I did manage to take some lovely photos and videos to have a lasting memory of this wonderful experience.

I’m leaving some photos below to get a better glimpse into our weekend gateway and what and how we prepared for dinner. Also, below, you will see how I captured the sunset vibe and the cocktail at the bar following the little night party we had on the deck of our lodge, next to the fire and candlelights.

My sister packed quite a few different things for the grill, including lamb chops, chicken breast, shish kofta, sliced potatoes, sweet corn, and red peppers, more than enough for 3 of us. All were served with salad and red wine, which became a copious dinner.

After dinner, we decided to take the golf cart for a ride to explore the surroundings and then have a drink at the Resort bar. On the way, we stopped to take a few pictures and videos and enjoy a good laugh while the girls tried to pose with the golf cart in some of the most hilarious ways. But in the end, we did manage to strike a few poses for the sake of social media:)))).

When we returned to our lodge, we set the barbecue fire pit and created a cozy outdoor space by placing the rattan lamps and scented candles around the seating and enjoying watching the sky while the dark settled. The scented candles kept the bugs away, as well as the smoke from the fire pit, so that’s a note you should keep when spending time outdoor.

Of course, we had ambient chillout music as I took with me a small portable BOSE speaker, therefore the sound was a bliss. Combined with the birds chirping and the relaxing music, everything felt just perfect.

Jamie gifted us a delicious Prosecco, which we really appreciated. It contributed to the whole experience and allowed me to take amazing pictures even at night. It is not easy to shoot great pictures in a bad light, but if you get the right angle, background, and settings, you can end up with gorgeous photographs and videos.

Although the Prosecco was super delish, it didn’t go well with blue chees; I had to learn that on my own as it made my stomach really upset at 5 am

As the night started setting, I loved watching the sky getting dark and the stars and planets popping out. Wish I had a telescope, or at least binocles, to watch the planets, as it was the perfect place to glance at the sky.

After the dance off on the deck of our lodge, we retired inside as it was getting cold outside. Here, the girls found an already decorated Christmas tree in the utility room, placed it in the middle of the living room, and danced around it like it was the festive season :))).

All in all, it was a good vibe; we had lots of fun and ended the evening by pampering and grooming ourselves. Of course, the face sheet masks are a must-have for looking fabulous the next day, so we did that and also took a few Insta photos to remember in the years to come.

The next day, the weather was so much better with a bright blue sky and a lovely sun, and we took the opportunity to have breakfast on the deck, after which we sunbatted.

Our lodge had two sets of outdoor furniture. On the left side of the door, we had the dining table with chairs, and on the right side, there was a small rattan bench with another small coffee table and seating cushions.

Around 1 pm, we started exploring the other part of the property to get a glimpse of the other lodges. As you walk by, you can hear the sound of the river nearby and the steam train whistle, two of Bridgnorth’s main attractions. Sadly, we didn’t have enough time to explore Bridgnorth town as it seems really lovely, with many opportunities for photographers to capture great content.

What to pack for a weekend gateway when you book a luxury lodge

It depends on how long you stay or what activities you plan. I would say to stick with dry food mainly because indulging in wet meals is too risky. Wet meals, including soups, smoothies, yogurt, seafood, etc. BBQ stuff is ideal, such as sandwich making, salads, etc.

If you don’t like preparing the meals yourself, you can pop into the restaurant and enjoy a variety of absolutely delicious meals. The same applies to drinks, although if you are a large group of people, the bill can be pretty expensive. Therefore, you are better off bringing your own beverage.

Also, don’t forget to pack stomach upset medication and hayfever tablets.

For sky geezers, pack your telescopes, cameras, and binoculars if you want, as the sky can be spectacular in the deep dark at night.

Regarding toiletries, our lodge has luxury towels, but you have to bring your own shower gel, soap, toothbrush, and toothpaste. I assume you knew that already, but take a note just in case you forget.

How to dress for a weekend gateway at a golf club

The first thing you have to keep in mind when you pack clothing for a golf club is comfort. I don’t suggest tight clothes unless you attend a wedding or a formal event. A linen set just like the one I wore( see the pictures above) is ideal, as it can protect you from the sun’s rays, keep you cool, and make you look classy. Denin and a plaid jacket are also options. Check my outfit in the first picture with the golf cart.

Shorts can also be an option, but only if the weather allows it. Given that The Astbury Golf & Lodge Resort is based in England, the weather can be a bit unpredictable, and you might need a cardigan too, or a blazer if you like. Just have two types of clothes as the weather can change pretty quickly.

Shoes must be comfortable too, picture flats or trainers, even slippers if you want. But do not wear high heels unless you attend the wedding venue, which happens very often at the Astbury Golf & Lodge Resort.

Conclusion

Overall, I enjoyed this weekend with the girls a lot. It was exactly what I needed. A little time to detach from everything and everyone and rebalance my energy. If you feel just like me, I strongly suggest booking a weekend or even a week to recharge and reconnect with yourself. You will feel so much better after. Your mental and physical health are the most important, and if you don’t look after yourself, nobody does.
